Marbella Takes a Leap Forward in Inclusion of Residents with Diverse Abilities
Marbella is making strides in the inclusion of residents with diverse abilities. The town hall is set to roll out a new initiative that leverages technology to better serve individuals with hearing loss. This system will enable municipal workers to connect directly to each person’s hearing aid, thereby eliminating background noise and facilitating smoother communication.
Local Government Spokesperson Announces Ambitious Initiative
Félix Romero, the spokesperson for the local government, announced this ambitious initiative. He described it as a strategy that considers the needs of all residents, including those with special needs, to access all town hall services. In the coming days, six devices will be installed in various locations around Marbella, including the citizen’s advice offices, the Social Services delegation, and the Local Police headquarters. A seventh unit will be reserved to cater to the needs of other areas.
Innovative Technology to Improve Communication
The innovative technology behind this initiative is the use of magnetic induction loops. These devices connect directly to the municipal worker’s microphone at their workstation and reduce all ambient noise, providing a clear sound for the individual with the hearing impairment.
Marbella Town Hall’s Collaboration with Local Deaf People’s Association
The Marbella town hall has a close working relationship with the Marbella-San Pedro Alcántara deaf people’s association. Last year, they signed a €25,000 agreement to develop programs and projects that promote the integration of people with hearing loss. The association plays a vital role in improving the community’s quality of life by supporting communication activities and promoting barrier-free access to education, lifelong learning, and employment.
Mayor of Marbella Commits to Renewing Subsidy
At the signing of the agreement, Marbella’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, stated that the subsidy would be renewed this year. The funds will be used to cover operational costs, hire a sign language expert, hold training sessions, create a website, and provide consultancy services. Muñoz emphasized that such aids are crucial as they aim to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals.
Marbella’s Continued Efforts Towards Integration
Marbella’s commitment to integration is evident in its municipal activities. For instance, council sessions are broadcasted in sign language on local television. With the introduction of the new magnetic induction system, the town hall is taking another step forward to ensure that people with hearing loss can comfortably carry out their daily activities and be more easily assisted by municipal employees.
