Antonio Banderas’ Marbella Home Demolished Amidst Legal Complications
In a surprising turn of events, the Marbella residence of Malaga-born actor Antonio Banderas has been demolished. The actor made the decision to tear down the iconic house, known as Las Gaviotas, which is situated in Los Monteros.
Legal Troubles Surrounding the Property
The property, previously owned by radio presenter Encarna Sánchez, has been plagued by a series of administrative issues. These problems began when the house was constructed in 1995 with an illegal license granted by the municipal government of Jesús Gil to its former owners.
Compensation System and Legal Disputes
The compensation system, included in the new general urban development plan of 2010, required the transfer of 1,243 square metres of land as a condition for the official formalisation of the home located on Los Monteros beach. However, in 2015, Spain’s Supreme Court declared the 2010 revision of the general urban development plan of Marbella to be illegal, rendering it null and void.
Banderas’ Decision to Demolish
These ongoing legal issues led Banderas to make the drastic decision to demolish his home. The actor aimed to rectify the disorder caused during Gil’s tenure, which occurred prior to his purchase of the property.
Significance of the Home to Banderas
The house held a special place in Banderas’ heart. It was the birthplace of his daughter, Stella del Carmen, and served as his residence for a significant portion of his marriage to actress Melanie Griffith. The actor also spent his confinement period during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 in this residence.
