Marbella’s Business Incubator Reports Over 9,000 Unemployed
The municipality of Marbella has reported over 9,000 registered unemployed individuals, 60% of whom have been unemployed for a long period. This data was presented on Tuesday by the delegate of the Board during the launch of the ‘Your Plan Towards Employment’ program. This initiative is developed by the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE) in collaboration with Action Against Hunger.
Training Program for the Unemployed and Vulnerable
The program aims to train 40 unemployed and vulnerable individuals, equipping them with the necessary skills for job placement. The initiative is supported by the City Council. Alejandro Freijo, the municipal advisor, stated that this intervention is more flexible than others. Participants are chosen first, and then the training that best suits them is selected. The City Council aids in the communication and dissemination of the program and provides technical assistance through the provision of an office and a training space.
Encouraging Participation and Offering Opportunities
Freijo encouraged individuals who fit the profile (immigrants, those over 45 years old in a situation of social exclusion, or long-term unemployed) to register for this free initiative, which is funded by the European Social Fund + (ESF+). Carmen Sánchez, the territorial delegate of Employment, Business and Self-Employment of the Board in Malaga, stated that the intervention is designed to provide opportunities to those who believe they no longer have any. She added that of the 9,000 unemployed registered in Marbella, 60% have been unemployed for a long time and could benefit from this initiative.
Action Against Hunger’s Role and Program Details
Isabel Soto, the delegate in Andalusia of Action Against Hunger, explained that the program aims to help participants regain their self-esteem and equip them with the necessary tools to secure stable employment and a better future. The group of participants will undergo a 100-hour program with individual and group sessions for job orientation, digital literacy, new technologies, and the improvement of personal and professional skills. The goal is to advance in self-knowledge, decision-making, and motivation for change, to foster an emotional connection with the environment, as well as responsibility and self-confidence. Registration will be open until March 12.
