Marbella Mayor Denies Land Rezoning Near Her Mansion
The Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, has denied reports that there will be a rezoning of lands in the Vega del Jaque area, where her mansion is located. She stated that there has been no change and that the only thing that happened was that “the Junta modified the boundary”. She assures that all judicial instances have agreed with her.
Mayor Addresses Media Queries
Responding to media queries, the mayor addressed the latest information about a land rezoning in the border area between Marbella and Benahavís, where her mansion is located. The lands would change from their current status (non-developable) to developable, according to the new General Plan of Municipal Planning (PGOM). She stated that everything is very clear, there has been no change and she explained that it was the Junta that moved the boundary between the two municipalities.
Mayor’s Mansion: A Point of Contention
Regarding her mansion, which is still presumed to be her property, she stated that it is “a 2006 house with a license granted when those lands were part of Benahavís”. She added that it was the Junta that later determined that the boundaries between the two municipalities should be changed, but she insisted that “even if the boundary changes, the classification does not change”.
Mayor Accuses PSOE of Misinformation
She asserts that “the PSOE knows this because the courts have told them time and again, in Marbella, in Málaga and in the Supreme Court, even the Consultative Council, enough is enough, they have little ground to stand on”. Muñoz reiterated that the lands have the same classification and clarified that the mansion “is not irregular, it has its planning since 2006, before I was mayor”.
Boundary Changes and Controversies
She insisted, “Only the boundary changes, which was modified by the Junta de Andalucía, everything else is exactly the same, the judges have made it very clear”. The reality is that it was Ángeles Muñoz herself who tried to move the boundary and both the Junta and the courts reminded her that the only valid one is from 1873.
Mayor Accused of Land Grabbing
In November 2014, in the plenary, she approved a boundary alteration that gifted Benahavís 170,000 square meters of land precisely in the area where her mansion is located, in Cerro del Colorado. Muñoz has reduced everything this morning to everything remains the same and what she considers a new personal attack from the PSOE “which she assures” has not worked but they insist again”.
Opposition and Citizen Movement’s Accusations
Both from the opposition, PSOE, IU and, in its day, OSP, as well as from the anti-boundary citizen movement, it has always been assured that these lands are rustic in Marbella and that by passing them to Benahavís, as Muñoz wanted, they became developable.
Mayor’s Attempt to Reverse Situation
However, the mayor now wants to reverse the situation and say that they were in Benahavís and were passed to Marbella because the Junta moved the boundary. A new chapter of the absurdity around this issue that has been going on for many years.
