New Local Laws to Regulate Scooter Use in Marbella
Marbella has taken a decisive step towards ensuring the safety of its residents and visitors by introducing new local laws to regulate the use of scooters in the town. The move comes in response to the growing popularity of electric scooters and the need to maintain order and safety on the town’s roads and pathways.
Speed Limit and Riding Zones
Under the new regulations, electric scooters will be restricted to a maximum speed of 20 kilometres per hour. Additionally, scooters are now required to be ridden exclusively in bike lanes. The new laws also prohibit the use of scooters on pavements, walkways, pedestrian areas, crossings, interurban roads, main roads, and motorways. Certain routes will have a further reduced speed limit of 10km/h.
Insurance and Safety Measures
The new laws also mandate that all scooters must have liability insurance. This is a crucial step towards ensuring that any damages or injuries caused by scooter accidents are adequately covered.
Rider Requirements
The regulations also stipulate that riders must be over the age of 14 and are required to wear a helmet and suitable footwear while riding. The use of headphones while riding is strictly prohibited under the new laws. This is in line with the town’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users.
These new regulations are a clear indication of Marbella’s commitment to adapting to changing transportation trends while prioritizing the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors.
