Parasurfer Sarah Almagro Awarded the 2024 Andalusia Sports Medal

The Andalusian Government has awarded the 2024 Andalusia Sports Medal to Marbella parasurfer Sarah Almagro, a symbol of resilience. Almagro was declared the world champion last November, after winning silver and bronze in the two previous years. She has also been crowned the Spanish champion three times and once the European champion.

Announcement of Andalusia Medals in Nine Different Categories

The Andalusian Government announced on Wednesday the awarding of the Andalusia Medals in nine different categories. These include Social Sciences and Letters; Arts; Sports; Solidarity and Concord; Economy and Business; Research, Science and Health; Projection of Andalusia; Environmental Merit and Human Values. The Sports Medal will be awarded to Marbella parasurfer Sarah Almagro and Granada athlete María Pérez García.

Awards Ceremony to be Held on Andalusia Day

The awards will be presented on December 28 in Seville, coinciding with the celebration of Andalusia Day. Sarah Almagro achieved an impressive triple win in 2023 as the Spanish, European, and World Champion of Adaptive Surfing.

Almagro’s Journey to Becoming the World Champion

After winning silver and bronze in the last two years, Almagro finally became the world’s best last November, earning a well-deserved title in the Prone 2 category. She achieved this at the ISA World Parasurfing Championship held in Huntington Beach, California. Almagro has also been the Spanish champion three times in a row (2021, 2022, and 2023) and once the European champion (2023).

Other Andalusia Medal Recipients from Malaga Province

In addition to Almagro, the Andalusia Medal will also be awarded to the Danza Invisible group (Arts) and singer Pablo López (Projection of Andalusia) from the province of Malaga. In the Economy and Business category, the agri-food cooperative Dcoop and builder José Luis Sánchez Domínguez (Sando) will be honored. These four awards, along with Almagro’s, elevate the local and provincial standard.
