16 Honored as Honorary Citizens of Marbella
This Saturday, 16 residents were honored with the title of Honorary Citizen of Marbella. The ceremony took place at the municipal theater of Marbella. These individuals represent the Marbella and San Pedro society and have been recognized by the City Council for their professional and personal achievements.
Distinctions Proposed by Various Political Groups
The distinctions are proposed by the various political groups that make up the Marbella City Council, supposedly in proportion to their representation in the Plenary. In reality, the PP has contributed 10 names, the PSOE 3, OSP 2, and Vox one. The opposition has 13 councilors and only 6 candidates, while the popular party, with 14 councilors, chooses ten.
Award Ceremony Held for the Sixth Time
This is the sixth time these awards have been granted. The PP government team coincided the awards with the election years in 2015 and 2019. The awards were also granted in 2020, but the pandemic forced the ceremony to be delayed by a year, taking place in 2021. The awards were then given in 2022 and 2023. This year, 16 were awarded on Saturday morning at the municipal theater.
List of Honorees
The honorees include Juan Antonio Vázquez Núñez ‘Juan Delola’, Víctor Marín Tineo, Librada Marín Guillén, José Caracuel, Emilio López Marcelo, Miguel Pérez Carrasco, Michael Reckling, Manuela Merino Quintana, José Antonio Cortés Luque, Alberto Mendoza Luna, José Andrés Sánchez Navarro, Concepción González Cañestre, Carlos Jesús Vázquez Muñoz, Agustín Vázquez Ruiz, Inmaculada López Romero, and Francisco Guzmán.
Participation of Government Team and Representatives
The ceremony was attended by the PP government team as well as representatives from PSOE, OSP, and Vox. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, stated that the values embodied by the 16 honorees “make Marbella a more excellent city”. She noted that those who have received the distinction “become part of a list to whom we want to give heartfelt thanks” and become “great ambassadors of our land”.
