Luis Ángel Maté to Participate in La Vuelta 2024

Luis Ángel Maté was present during the unveiling of La Vuelta 2024 last December. Unipublic, the company that organizes the Vuelta Ciclista a España, announced on Friday the teams that will participate in the 2024 edition. Among the invitees this time is Euskaltel-Euskadi, which means that Marbella’s Luis Ángel Maté will have the opportunity to participate for the last time and bid farewell to a race he has competed in eleven times so far.

Euskaltel-Euskadi Returns to Spanish Round

The Basque squad returns to the Spanish round after not being present last year due to not receiving an invitation from the organizers. This year, Euskaltel-Euskadi will be present, and among its ranks is Marbella’s Luis Ángel Maté, who is experiencing his final season as a professional. In this way, he will be able to say goodbye to a race that he has competed in and finished eleven times so far, very close to the record of Íñigo Cuesta and Alejandro Valverde, who finished it 14 times.

Unipublic Invites Two New Teams

This year, Unipublic has invited two teams that were left out last year, Euskaltel and Kern Pharma, while leaving out Burgos BH and Caja Rural, regulars in recent editions. “Counting the days for the most special La Vuelta. Thank you very much,” Maté stated on his social media. The Basque team is also pleased: “The reward for daily work. Thank you very much to La Vuelta, we will give our best to honor the race.”

Cancellation of Vuelta a Andalucía

It was a joyful news on a tough day when the cancellation of the Vuelta a Andalucía was finally announced, which could only hold a small time trial in Alcaudete on Friday. A hard blow for the race and for cycling in Spain, caused by the lack of Civil Guard personnel due to farmer protests on the roads. Luis Ángel Maté climbed the podium as the best Andalusian cyclist, in what was a sad farewell to this race. “It was not the desired way to complete this Vuelta a Andalucía, but it is always a pride to climb the podium as the first Andalusian,” said the Marbella native. The race was scheduled in five stages, from Wednesday to Sunday, but it was finally decided to leave them only in three, which have been left in the one disputed today.
