Marbella 4 Days Walking Event Attracts Over 2,500 Participants from 17 Countries
The thirteenth edition of the Marbella 4 Days Walking (M4DW) hiking event, held earlier this month, saw participation from over 2,500 enthusiasts from 17 different countries. The event, which featured 12 hiking routes, including two new challenging Challenge Routes, continues to establish itself as a major attraction for sports lovers and tourists.
From Humble Beginnings to an International Movement
Starting in 2011 as a simple gathering of friends keen to explore local hiking trails, the M4DW event has transformed into an international phenomenon. This year, seasoned walkers had the chance to participate in the newly introduced Marbella 2-Days Challenge, held on the 5th and 6th of October. The route led participants from Plaza del Mar to Ojén, crossing the region’s mountains and valleys, offering them a chance to experience the raw beauty of nature.
New Routes Excite Experienced Walkers
Arabella M. Wessels, the event’s promoter and director, stated that the introduction of new routes is an exciting development for more seasoned walkers. She emphasized that the event not only offers fantastic hiking routes but also gives visitors the chance to experience Marbella’s cuisine, leisure activities, and culture. Wessels also underscored the event’s importance for tourism and the town’s future.
Majority of Participants from Western Europe
This year, most participants hailed from western European countries, including the Netherlands, Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany, and Belgium. Wessels revealed that this year’s four themed routes focused on different landscapes: Beach day, Green day, View day, and Lake day. The routes varied in distance from 10 to 30 kilometres across the municipal area of Marbella.
