Marbella Town Hall Announces Tender for Eco-Friendly Renovation of Palacio de Ferias y Congresos

Marbella’s town hall has announced a tender for a project aimed at transforming the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos into a more sustainable facility. The project, which is estimated to cost 2.3 million euros, is funded by the European Union. Interested companies can submit their bids until 26 November through the state’s online contracting platform.

Project Aims to Boost Eco-Friendly Tourism and Conferences

The primary objective of the project is to promote the centre as a key facility for tourism, conferences, and exhibitions by making it more eco-friendly. The project includes several interventions, with the most notable being the use of rainwater and achieving energy self-sufficiency.

Improvements to Roof and Water Recycling Among Key Features

The project includes improvements to the roof for better thermal insulation and waterproofing. It also plans to use rainwater by recycling grey water and other saving mechanisms. This means all collected water will be used for purposes such as irrigation and toilet flushing.

Modernisation of Facilities to Reduce Energy Consumption

The project also aims to modernise the facilities by renewing the air-conditioning system, increasing natural lighting, and installing energy-efficient materials. These measures will help reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Constructive Measures for Climate Targets and Digital Development

The project will also implement constructive measures to achieve climate targets. This includes promoting digital development, smart metering and control systems, and improving water use. The project also plans to reduce hot water pipes and improve insulation.

Improvements to Ventilation and Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points

Work will also be carried out on the ventilation and air renewal system to improve natural ventilation. The project also includes the installation of charging points for electric vehicles.

Part of a Larger Tourism Sustainability Plan

The project is part of a larger five-million-euro tourism sustainability plan. This plan also includes ambitions to connect the Guadalpín river walkway with the coastal path. These two actions will be completed with the botanical garden, which will act as a gateway to the Sierra de las Nieves.
