Marbella Town Hall Receives Top Honors in Andalucía en Flor Awards

Marbella Town Hall has been awarded the highest accolade in this year’s Andalucía en Flor (Andalucía in Bloom) awards. The town hall received the + (plus) distinction, a first in its history, according to Diego López, the councillor for parks and gardens. This award is a testament to the town’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing its green spaces.

Criteria for the Prestigious Award

The Andalucía en Flor awards are judged based on three key areas: the quality and extent of a town’s green spaces, the implementation of sustainability measures, and the development of educational and environmental awareness programs. Marbella Town Hall was recognized for its efforts in all these areas, including its rational use of water, phytosanitary treatments, green waste management, and soil and substrate management.

Marbella’s Green Evolution

Marbella’s transformation has positioned the town just shy of the awards’ main distinction, level five for flowers, a feat no other municipality has yet achieved. The councillor praised the town’s progress, noting that Marbella has become a leader in green infrastructure management, using innovative and eco-friendly treatments that are safe for both people and animals.

Tree Management and Drought Mitigation

The awards also highlighted Marbella’s effective tree management and the value of the town’s green coverage. The town has implemented irrigation systems to combat drought and reduce water consumption, further demonstrating its commitment to sustainability.

Andalucía en Flor Awards Ceremony

The awards ceremony, now in its fifth year, took place in Carmona. It brought together professionals from the sector, public administrators, and representatives from the award-winning town councils.
