San Pedro Alcántara to Welcome New Municipal Library
Construction of the new municipal library in San Pedro Alcántara, Marbella, is set to commence this summer. The project, which is estimated to cost around 3.9 million euros, is expected to be completed within an 18-month timeframe. The library will be located in the town’s Jorge Lorenzo Tejada park, providing a green backdrop to the new facility.
Revitalizing Unused Spaces
The deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, revealed that the project will involve the regeneration of a disused amphitheatre, which explains the cylindrical shape of the planned construction. García emphasized the library’s setting, surrounded by trees, as a space for culture, education, and leisure. He also expressed the town’s commitment to creating emblematic and iconic buildings that contribute to its identity.
Modern Design Meets Functionality
The library’s design features a concrete structure with a protective layer to filter sunlight, enhancing its energy efficiency. The building will have two independent entrances to its main floors, both of which comply with accessibility regulations. The library will be spread over two floors, with the upper floor housing a main central space and a separate area for the children’s section.
Accessible and Versatile Spaces
The lower floor will feature a study area, a conference room, and a desk for borrowing and returning books. This floor will also be accessible from the park and can operate independently from the upper floor, allowing it to be used solely as a study room or opened for events. The upper floor will be accessible from Calle San Javier, and the roof will be open to the public via a staircase-terrace located next to the main upper entrance.
Investing in Community Development
The new San Pedro Alcántara municipal library is part of the investments planned in the current municipal budget for this area. Other projects in the pipeline include a new centre for older people and a music and dance school. These initiatives reflect the town’s commitment to enhancing its cultural, educational, and leisure facilities.
