Marbella gives green light to record 414-million-euro municipal budget

Marbella Town Hall Approves Record Municipal Budgets for 2025

Marbella Town Hall has given the green light to its municipal budgets for 2025, amounting to a record 414.2 million euros in revenue and 405.2 million euros in expenditure. The budgets, the highest ever for the town, were approved with votes from the ruling Partido Popular, while opposition groups PSOE, OSP, and VOX voted against. A total of 16 ‘alegaciones’ were presented, including one from a municipal employee and others from two opposition groups.

Opposition’s Proposals Partially Approved

Out of the 16 ‘alegaciones’ presented, eight from the socialists represented by PSOE were rejected. Four of the seven from local independent party Opción Sampedreña were partially approved. VOX, however, did not present any.

Key Features of the Budget

The local government team emphasized the social, investment, and quality services nature of these municipal accounts. However, the opposition criticized them for being “inflated”. Marbella’s budget has increased by 11.5% from last year, marking the largest ever in the town’s history. The consolidated spending has also risen by 42 million compared to 2024.

Urban Development and Tax Revenues

One of the main highlights of this economic roadmap for the next 12 months is its close association with the town’s urban development. The council estimates that revenues could reach up to 30 million euros due to the 10% average income from urban development projects. Taxes such as ICIO or Plusvalía (capital gains tax) are also expected to boost the municipal coffers.

Investment and Infrastructure Initiatives

Marbella’s accounts also highlight a significant level of investment in the town, amounting to 41 million euros, two million more than the current financial year. Other initiatives include the commencement of the underground car park at the Albergue África hostal and a surface makeover of a sports area with a total budget of 23 million euros and an allocation of 800,000 euros for 2025.

Social Aspect and Mayor’s Remarks

On the social front, Marbella’s mayor Ángeles Muñoz highlighted a 15% increase in that particular budget. She expressed pride in the support provided by the town hall to all associations, mentioning the four million euros allocated for this within their plans.
