Swedish Fugitive Apprehended in Marbella Following High-Speed Chase
A Swedish man, who was on the run, has been apprehended in Marbella following a perilous car pursuit that resulted in injuries to five police officers. The man was initially stopped by National Police officers at a security checkpoint, a part of the Marbella Plan. This plan was initiated in response to a recent surge in shootings in the area.
Chase Ensues After Fugitive Flees Security Checkpoint
The incident occurred around 1pm on Monday, 3rd June, on Avenida Alfonso de Hohenlohe. However, instead of complying with the officers, the man stepped on the gas and fled the scene, triggering a police chase. During his attempted escape, the fugitive caused damage to three civilian cars, a police patrol vehicle, and a bus. He also damaged a traffic light and several road signs.
Five Officers Injured, None Seriously
Five National Police officers sustained injuries during the pursuit, although none of the injuries were serious. The fugitive’s reckless actions not only endangered his own life but also the lives of the officers and the general public.
European Arrest Warrant Revealed
Upon verifying his identity, the police discovered the reason behind his desperate attempt to escape. The 52-year-old man had a European arrest warrant issued against him in relation to a drug trafficking case. His arrest in Marbella marks the end of his time on the run and brings a sense of relief to the local community.
