Marbella Town Hall Installs Solar Street Lighting on A-397 Ronda Road
Marbella’s local government has initiated the installation of solar-powered street lights along the A-397 Ronda road in San Pedro Alcántara. Deputy Mayor Javier García revealed that the first phase of the three-part plan has seen the installation of 23 street lights, resulting in an energy saving of 63 per cent.
Responding to Residents’ Requests
García stated that the local government is fulfilling a promise made to the residents of the Bello Horizonte area and those accessing La Quinta, who had requested the installation of lights in their vicinity.
Future Plans for More Lighting
The Deputy Mayor also disclosed plans to install additional lights on the central section of the road and the section connecting the industrial estate with the roundabout on Avenida Oriental, adjacent to the A-7 motorway.
Energy Efficiency Plan in Action
The project, which is part of the San Pedro Alcántara Energy Efficiency Plan, has a budget of 107,000 euros and is expected to be completed within two months. The aim is to reduce electricity consumption and emissions, according to García.
Advanced Features of the New Street Lights
García further elaborated that the new street lights are equipped with seven-metre-high poles and have a power of 9,500 lumens. Their intensity can be adjusted via a mobile application based on the frequency of battery recharges.
Ownership Transfer and Road Improvements
In 2022, the Junta de Andalucía transferred the ownership of the road section between the AP-7 motorway exit and the Avenida Oriental roundabout to the town hall. García noted that the local government has since taken over conservation and maintenance tasks. He also mentioned that 1.5 kilometres of the road were recently asphalted and there are plans to widen the road to two lanes in each direction, complete with pavements and infrastructure to transform the road into a boulevard.
