Water Supply Situation in Marbella: From Serious to Severe
The dam of La Concepción, which services Marbella, is under scrutiny. The Board will propose this Wednesday at the Drought Management Commission meeting to reduce the current water-saving measures in the Western Costa del Sol. The scarcity situation will shift from serious to severe, a step down, but restrictions will still continue. The refilling of private pools will be authorized at the proposal of the municipalities.
Improvement in Water Resources
The improvement in water resources will allow the Andalusian Government to present a proposal for the relaxation of some measures at the Commission. Specifically, the amount of water per person per day that was established last April in the Western Costa del Sol and Campo de Gibraltar systems will be adjusted due to the change in situation.
Increasing Water Contributions
The proposal will be to increase the water contributions for urban use supply by 25 liters per inhabitant per day, so that it can reach a maximum of 225 liters of water consumption. It was previously at 200 after it was increased from 160 during the time of greatest scarcity. This new measure will be applied in the ten municipalities of the Malaga system of the Western Costa del Sol, including Marbella.
La Concepción Dam Status
The La Concepción dam, which supplies the region, continues at 75%, with 43.11 cubic hectometers, the same as it had a week ago, and more than it stored a year ago (42.27).
Private Pools
Regarding pools, the Board, at the proposal of the municipalities and the commonwealths with competencies in high supply, may authorize the refilling of private ones, as long as a technical report justifying compatibility is submitted to the Commission. In any case, private pools must have a water recirculation system, so that it is used in the minimum indispensable quantities to replace water losses due to evaporation, filter cleaning, and to guarantee the sanitary quality of the water. Public and tourist pools had already been authorized before Easter.
