Spanish Municipalities with the Most Tourist Accommodations: Marbella Ranks Fourth
According to the latest data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Marbella is the fourth municipality in Spain with the most tourist accommodations. The data, collected in February, shows that Marbella has slipped from its previous third position, now occupied by Malaga, which has more tourist accommodations. The province leads in this type of accommodation.
Marbella’s Tourist Accommodations: A Closer Look
Marbella has 5,925 tourist accommodations, accounting for 6.83% of the total number of accommodations in the municipality. These accommodations provide 33,931 places for tourists. However, the number of tourist accommodations in Marbella has been slightly decreasing. In August 2020, there were 6,266 tourist accommodations, meaning there are 341 fewer nearly three years later.
Top Spanish Cities for Tourist Accommodations
The two Spanish cities with the most tourist accommodations are Madrid (13,502) and Barcelona (7,509). It’s noteworthy that the number of tourist accommodations in Barcelona has been decreasing from over 17,000 in the summer of 2020. The third position, previously held by Marbella, is now occupied by Malaga, which continues to increase its number of tourist accommodations, currently at 6,252.
Other Municipalities with High Numbers of Tourist Accommodations
Following Marbella (5,925) in the ranking are Valencia (5,245) and Seville (5,149). These are the six municipalities with over 5,000 tourist accommodations. Nationally, Mijas ranks tenth with 3,503 accommodations, and Benalmadena is fifteenth with 3,078.
Costa del Sol and Malaga: Leaders in Tourist Accommodations
With 35,360 tourist accommodations, Costa del Sol and Malaga lead as the Spanish province with the most offerings of this type of accommodation. In terms of autonomous communities, Andalusia is in first place with 70,194 accommodations, followed by the Valencian Community (49,950) and Catalonia (45,709).
Marbella’s Share in Spain’s Total Tourist Accommodations
In Spain, there are 305,136 tourist accommodations, meaning Marbella accounts for 1.94% of the national total and 8.44% of Andalusia’s total. The percentage rises to 16.75% when considering the province of Malaga.
