Marbella City Council Unveils Adapted Chair for Mountain Racing
The Marbella City Council has acquired the first ‘Joëlette’ adapted chair, designed to enable children and adults with reduced mobility to participate in mountain sports events. The chair will make its debut on April 20th in a race in Pizarra, adding to the existing chair already owned by the Ultra Trail Sierra Blanca, bringing the total to two.
Officials Present Initiative for Inclusive Sports
Lisandro Vieytes, the councilor in charge, presented the initiative on Monday alongside the technical director and treasurer of the Ultra Trail Sierra Blanca club, José Ramón Pacheco and Marina Robertson, respectively. Vieytes emphasized the council’s strong commitment to accessibility, stating that the addition of this new chair, bearing the name ‘Marca Marbella’, will allow all competitions taking place on more challenging terrains to include an inclusive category.
Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusion
Vieytes also highlighted that this was a commitment they had made to various groups and expressed satisfaction that it has been realized. He explained that the chair is adapted with new technologies and can be used in mountain or hiking trials organized by the City Council. It will also be available to clubs and the State Security Forces when they need to carry out a rescue that requires it.
Ultra Trail Sierra Blanca Expands Offer
Pacheco, on his part, explained that Ultra Trail Sierra Blanca has had a similar chair for a year and expressed satisfaction at being able to expand the offer with a second one. This chair will be put into operation for the first time on April 20th in a race taking place in Pizarra.
