CEM Makes a Strong Showing in the First Event of the Season

The Marbella Climbing Club (CEM) made a triumphant return to competition this weekend at the first event of the 2024 Andalusian Cup of Nordic Walking held in Huelva. The Marbella-based club bagged a total of 14 medals, with standout performances from Fran Cruz and Lola Gallego who secured absolute podium finishes.

Marbella Climbing Club Shines at the Andalusian Cup 2024

The Moret Park hosted the first event of the 2024 Andalusian Cup last weekend. The Marbella Climbing Club travelled to the capital of Huelva with a large team of athletes to kick off the new season. CEM shone brightly, as it has in past seasons, securing a total of 14 podium finishes. The club also had the highest number of athletes participating in this event, with a total of 30.

Details of the First Event of the Season

The first event of the season was conducted on a 2.7-kilometer circuit, which had to be completed five times to cover the total distance of 13.5 kilometers. The event was marked by poor weather conditions, with rain, cold, and a lot of mud. Despite these challenges, the Marbella Climbing Club excelled, securing a total of 14 medals. Fran Cruz and Lola Gallego were the standout performers, with Cruz finishing in third place and Gallego securing the silver medal.

Victorious Performances Across Categories

In terms of categories, Juan Carlos Cabello, the current Cup champion, secured the first place in the senior category. Other victories were achieved by Óscar Rueda (veteran B), Esther Muñoz (veteran B), and Sara Dabrio (veteran A). Additional podium finishes for CEM’s adult athletes included: Blanca Lizarán (silver in junior), María Luisa Acuña (silver in veteran D), Miguel Ángel Rueda (bronze in veteran A), and Patricia Cabello (bronze in veteran A).

Impressive Results from the Young Athletes

Regarding the results of the young athletes, on an 8.1-kilometer course, Lucas Gámez and Iris Morales, who were making their debut in the cadet category, secured victories in their respective categories. Alejandro Moreno also secured a bronze medal in the cadet category. Lastly, in the alevin category, which was contested over a distance of 5.7 kilometers, Alba Mera secured the silver medal.
