New High-Speed Train Service Between Marbella and Madrid
Private high-speed train operator Iryo and Spanish bus company Avanza have entered into a partnership to introduce a new four-hour service connecting Marbella and Madrid. The innovative service will offer a combined train and bus ticket, simplifying travel for passengers.
Expanding Reach to Costa del Sol Destinations
Iryo has already established a strong presence in the Costa del Sol region, providing services to popular destinations such as Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Algeciras, and La Línea de la Concepción. The collaboration with Avanza will extend the reach of Iryo’s services, enabling passengers to travel beyond the train station in the province of Malaga using Avanza’s bus services.
Increased Connectivity and Frequency of Services
In addition to Iryo’s existing 10 daily connections (five each way) between Madrid and Malaga, Avanza offers over 20 daily buses to Marbella every 30 to 60 minutes, more than 10 to Estepona every one to two hours, around six to Fuengirola and Algeciras, and five to La Línea de la Concepción. This ensures a comprehensive range of services to cater to the diverse needs of all passengers.
Boosting Sustainable Tourism and Mobility
Marbella mayor Ángeles Muñoz praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance mobility and connectivity, and bring Marbella closer to visitors from Madrid. The initiative also aligns with the city’s commitment to sustainable tourism and public transport.
Flexible and Sustainable Travel for a Growing City
Iryo CEO Simone Gorini expressed that the agreement paves the way for “sustainable and flexible” travel options for Marbella, a city that welcomed 736,000 visitors in 2023 through its 50 daily connections with Malaga city. Gorini added that the plan is effective as it caters to the Spanish love for travel and offers diverse options.
