Marbella Business Leaders Gather for CIT Luncheon

The CIT Marbella, an association of business leaders and professionals, hosted a luncheon for its members on Thursday, 27 March at the newly renovated Kimpton Los Monteros Hotel in Marbella.

Mayor Expresses Optimism for Marbella’s Future

Ángeles Muñoz, the mayor of Marbella, addressed the 250 attendees, expressing her positive outlook on the town’s medium and long-term future. She thanked the CIT for the opportunity to discuss the current state of Marbella and its potential for business growth.

Marbella’s Economic Growth Since 2007

Muñoz reflected on the town’s economic progress since she became mayor in 2007. She highlighted the increase in the town’s budget from less than 200 million euros to over 400 million euros, the creation of jobs and businesses, and the rise in tourism.

Entrepreneurs Credited for Positive Results

The mayor acknowledged Marbella’s entrepreneurs for their significant contributions to the town’s positive economic results. She noted their investment of over 300 million euros in the hotel industry over the past five years and their continued belief in Marbella as a tourist destination.

CIT President Thanks Mayor and Congratulates Attendees

Juan José González, the president of CIT, thanked the mayor for her encouraging words and congratulated the attendees on the positive data on tourist occupancy and employment development. He also praised the success of the special security plans implemented by the state security forces.

Challenges Facing Marbella’s Employers

González outlined three challenges facing Marbella’s employers: the need for affordable housing, improved transport and connections for workers, and the recruitment of skilled labour. He suggested solutions such as subsidising motorway fees during the high tourist season to ease commuting for workers.

Plans for Stabilising Marbella’s Beaches

The CIT president also called for a comprehensive plan to stabilise Marbella’s beaches in the medium and long term. He urged for institutional initiatives to expedite such projects.

Event Concludes with Q&A Session

The event concluded with a luncheon and a question-and-answer session with the mayor, providing an opportunity for attendees to engage in a dialogue about the future of Marbella.
