Marbella’s Revival: Abandoned Spaces to Generate Employment
Marbella is on the path to rejuvenation as it plans to restore four deserted areas across the town to create job opportunities. The town hall has decided to reclaim the former Aresbank facilities and the Marbell Center shopping centre, both of which have been shut down for the past thirty years.
Revitalizing Shopping Centres and Unused Commercial Spaces
The Plaza del Mar shopping centre and the commercial spaces in Plaza Antonio Banderas, which have never been utilized, are also part of the town’s revival plan. Marbella is attracting more entrepreneurs and investors every day, with over 20,000 companies already established and operating in the town, according to Marbella mayor Ángeles Muñoz. This initiative is expected to create jobs and boost the local economy.
Former Aresbank Building: A New Culinary and Nightlife Hub
One of the projects already in progress is the restoration of the former Aresbank building. The Mosh Group and renowned chef Dani García are spearheading this project, aiming to transform it into a high-end dining and nightlife venue, creating 200 jobs in the process. The building, which had been neglected for 30 years and frequented by drug users, will see enhanced security measures as work commences.
Marbell Center Shopping Centre: A New Lease of Life
The Marbell Center shopping centre, which has been closed for three decades, is set to reopen after a makeover. The centre, located in the old town of Marbella on Avenida Ramón y Cajal, is expected to become a hub for leisure, dining, and shopping once again. The 25-million-euro investment is set to breathe new life into the area.
Plaza del Mar: Awaiting a Fresh Start
The Plaza del Mar shopping centre, located in Calle Camilo José Cela, is another facility expected to be revitalized. Although the building has not been entirely closed, it has been largely unused over the years. The last operating gymnasium was shut down in early 2023.
Plaza Antonio Banderas: From Abandoned to Active
The unused commercial space in Plaza Antonio Banderas is also set to be refurbished and operational in the short term in 2025. Negotiations for this site are already in advanced stages. This initiative is part of the town’s broader plan to revitalize abandoned spaces and stimulate economic growth.
