Marbella to Host Record-Breaking Tuna Butchering Event

In a unique spectacle, a 7ft tuna fish weighing a massive 150kg will be butchered in front of a 400-strong crowd at the old bullring of Puerto Banus in Marbella. This event, scheduled for the beginning of next month, could potentially set a new Guinness World Record. The event’s organiser, Pepe Ximenez, has revealed that the artisan butchering of the giant tuna may be a record-breaking feat.

Traditional Butchering of a 150kg Tuna from Cadiz

The event, named Ronqueo I, will take place on July 2. It will feature the traditional butchering of a 150kg tuna from Cadiz, a delicacy that enjoys worldwide popularity. The renowned chef from Ronda, David Canca, will be in charge of the butchering. Following the butchering, attendees will be treated to a lavish three-course meal based on tuna, paired with wine from the Otazu bodega. The wine will be selected by the ‘Golden nose of Spain’, sommelier Jose Joaquin Cortes.

Guinness World Record Delegation Shows Interest

According to Ximenez, the event has piqued the interest of the Guinness World Record delegation. They will be sending a representative to Marbella with the intention of including the event in their annual reference book. This book lists world records of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world.

Culinary Event to Promote New Concept of Leisure

The culinary event aims to promote a new concept of leisure that combines gastronomy, art, and entertainment. This concept has been aptly named ‘Ronquearte’ by Ximenez. The event will also feature performances by Marbella artists Eva Piñero and Flores y Chino, and Álvaro Vizcaíno from Cordoba.

Upcoming Events in Spain

In related news, Spain’s Estepona is set to celebrate Noche de San Juan with a funky music festival. Fuengirola will host the first female music festival in Spain, the LGTBI music event ‘Fulanita Fest’. Additionally, big names in rock are billed for music festivals in Malaga on Spain’s Costa del Sol this summer.
