Marbella Town Hall Allocates €38 Million for Urban Maintenance and Conservation
Marbella’s local government has declared its plans to invest over 38 million euros in road and urban maintenance, as well as conservation efforts for the year 2025. This funding is part of the town’s cleaning and solid urban waste budget, which is projected to exceed 18 million euros annually. The budget covers a wide range of services including waste management, vehicle leasing, machinery repair, and the procurement of specific products.
Public Spaces and Residential Areas to Receive Significant Funding
Diego López, the councillor for the area, has stated that one of the mayor’s top priorities is the upkeep and beautification of public spaces. The budget also includes allocations for schools and sports facilities, with a sum of two million euros, and residential areas and housing developments, which will receive 10 million euros. López emphasized the importance of these programs, which are responsible for maintaining pavements, lighting, and drainage systems, among other things.
Beautification of the Town: A Priority for the Parks and Gardens Department
López also highlighted the work of the parks and gardens department, which is committed to enhancing the town’s aesthetic appeal. This department has a planned investment of 5.6 million euros for the year, with initiatives such as the upkeep of green spaces receiving four million euros. Other specific interventions include pruning, plant health, conservation of lakes and ponds, and urban tree planting in Marbella.
Allocation for Supplies and Maintenance of Parks
Regarding supplies, López detailed that plant material and urban trees will receive an allocation of 431,000 euros. Additionally, around 90,000 euros are expected to be spent on pots, compost, fertilisers, and other related items, as well as small machinery for operational services. The maintenance of parks, particularly the conservation of children’s play areas, will receive a total of 313,000 euros.
Beach Conservation and Cleaning: A Sensitive Expense
Lastly, López mentioned the conservation and cleaning of beaches, streams, and public land, which has a budget of 2.7 million euros. He noted that this is a sensitive expense that can fluctuate depending on the impact of storms on the coastline. López expressed concern over the increasing need for public resources due to the central government’s inaction, which he believes could be better used for other purposes to improve the wellbeing of the residents.
