Marbella Health Centres Await Operational Status Amidst Delays
Three health centres in Marbella are in line to become operational, but are facing significant delays. The facilities, along with the expansion of the Hospital Universitario Costa del Sol, are months and in some cases, years behind their original schedule. This delay, coupled with the town’s growing population, is straining Marbella’s public health resources.
Town Hall’s Investment in Health Infrastructure
The town hall has taken the initiative to construct and outfit the buildings located in Avenida Ricardo Soriano, Las Chapas, and Las Albarizas. However, the Junta de Andalucía has yet to supply them with the necessary equipment and staff. The town hall’s investment in these three facilities totals 3.7 million euros, with all construction work now completed.
Ricardo Soriano Health Centre: Two Years Behind Schedule
The health centre in Ricardo Soriano is currently two years behind its original completion date of 2023. Despite an updated opening date set for autumn 2024, the centre remains in the same state as the previous year, with no new opening date in sight. Once operational, this facility will have the capacity to serve 23,000 residents.
Las Chapas Health Centre: Ready but Not Operational
The new health centre in Las Chapas has expanded five times from its original size to 527 square metres. The building has been ready since November of the previous year, but it is still not operational.
Las Albarizas Facility: Two Years Delayed
The Las Albarizas facility on Bulevar Pablo Ráez was supposed to be operational in 2023. However, two years later, it remains closed to the public despite the completion of construction work.
Hospital Universitario Costa del Sol: A Decade Behind Schedule
The health project experiencing the longest delay in Marbella is the extension of the Hospital Universitario Costa del Sol. The project is more than a decade behind its original schedule. Although the last projected opening date was set for 2024, the latest estimate now points to the end of 2025.
