Parents Demand Continuation of Free Bus Service at Antonio Machado School in Marbella
This morning, José Bernal, Isabel Pérez, and Patricia Alba visited Antonio Machado School in Marbella. Parents of students at the school, located in the Plaza de Toros neighborhood of Marbella, are urging the Junta to maintain the free bus service for the next academic year. The service is currently used by students starting secondary education at Bahía de Marbella Institute. The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) has expressed its support for the parents’ cause and will bring the matter to the next plenary session.
PSOE Representatives Meet with Parents Association
Isabel Pérez, spokesperson for the Municipal Socialist Group, and provincial deputy Patricia Alba, met with representatives of the Parents Association (AMPA) this morning. They expressed their support and discussed the political actions they plan to take. Pérez expressed her disappointment that the Junta is not supporting the needs of parents, many of whom do not have a compatible schedule to transport their children from the neighborhood to the city center daily.
Free Bus Service to be Suspended for 60 Students
Until now, students from Antonio Machado School who attended Bahía de Marbella Institute had access to a free bus service. However, it has been announced that this service will be suspended for the 60 students starting the next academic year. Pérez pointed out that despite many commitments made by the mayor and the Junta of Andalusia, the reality is that they are not responding to the needs raised by parents.
PSOE to Bring Proposal to Next Plenary Session
The councilor announced that the PSOE will bring this proposal to the next plenary session for debate. She hopes it will receive support from the Popular Party, which so far has shown little involvement with the Plaza de Toros, where they had committed to expanding the school and promoting an institute, neither of which has happened.
PSOE Advocates for Free Transportation for Students
The spokesperson recalled that the PSOE has repeatedly called for free transportation for students in Marbella and San Pedro, similar to urban buses. However, this is not being fulfilled for those who really need this service the most. She suggested that it would be a way to support young people in their formative stage, but once again, the Popular Party is turning its back on this sector of society, as it does in other areas, such as access to housing.
Patricia Alba to Address Educational Needs in the Province
Patricia Alba announced that they will also bring a proposal related to educational needs in the province to the plenary session of the Diputación, which will include the needs of students in Plaza de Toros. She also highlighted another demand, the lack of school monitors, both in the center and on the bus that transports older students to schools. Alba stated that the motion will include a proposal for the maintenance and expansion of public services, as well as “strong opposition to the continued dismantling of public services, as the Junta of Andalusia is currently doing.”
