Marbella Town Hall Announces 6.9 Million Euro Tender for New Municipal School of Music and Dance
Marbella town hall has announced a tender worth 6.9 million euros for the construction of a new municipal school of music and dance in San Pedro Alcántara. The project, which was conceived five years ago, is finally set to commence this year. Companies interested in participating in the tender can submit their bids through the online platform for state contract bids until 11 February. The construction period is expected to last 20 months, with work potentially starting this summer.
Current Facilities Inadequate for Educational and Administrative Management
The report justifying the new construction states that the existing facilities are logistically challenging for both administrative and educational management and do not provide suitable conditions for the activities. The new school is expected to be a significant educational and cultural facility, providing regulated teaching of music and dance at the elementary level, as per the Junta de Andalucía.
New School to Consolidate Classes Currently Spread Across Four Locations
San Pedro’s deputy mayor has stated that the new facility will consolidate all classes that are currently spread across four different locations in San Pedro Alcántara. The school will be built on a 3,260 square metre plot in the southern part of the town and will accommodate up to 300 students and around 20 teachers. The total built area will be 6,423 square metres.
Unique Design Features of the New School
The design by Huete Arquitectos features a façade that will depict the MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) representation of a song, allowing light to enter the interior. A three-dimensional representation of ascending notes of sheet music has also been incorporated into the design.
Key Elements of the Proposed Building
The proposed building has been designed with key elements such as the main foyer, space for artistic expression, music and dance wings, an upper plaza, and car parks. A public square has also been created on the roof of the building, forming a fifth façade. This will be accessible via a staircase located on the curved south façade of the building.
Creating New Spaces for Coexistence in a Growing Area
The deputy mayor has stated that the new school will create new spaces for coexistence in a growing area. The indoor area will feature 20 classrooms, a large auditorium with a capacity for almost 120 people, and common areas. Artistic expressions will not only take place in the auditorium but also in the open air, taking advantage of the favourable weather and the spaces being set up for this purpose.
