John Julius Reel to Kick Off 2025 Talk Series in Benahavís
Author John Julius Reel is set to open the 2025 Talk Series – Stories about Benahavís with his presentation, The Foreign vs. The Familiar. The event will take place at the Salón de Actos in the Benahavís town hall on Tuesday, 25 March at 5.30pm. Reel, who has resided in Seville for over a decade and a half, will offer his unique insights on the interplay between the foreign and the familiar, drawing from his memoir, My Half Orange.
David Illsley to Discuss Andalucían Cultures in May
Following Reel’s talk, David Illsley will take the stage on 27 May to delve into the Cultures of Andalucía. Illsley’s talk will provide an engaging narrative on the various cultures that have influenced Andalucía over the years, with a special emphasis on the Islamic period and its eventual overthrow by the Catholic monarchs.
Vikings in Al Andalus: Manuel Parodi’s September Talk
The series will continue on 30 September with Manuel Parodi’s talk on Vikings in Al Andalus: the Normanni Discover the South. Parodi will explore the intriguing history of the Vikings in southern Spain, offering a fresh perspective on this lesser-known aspect of Spanish history.
Esther Ráez to Conclude Series with a Talk on the Importance of History
The 2025 Talk Series will conclude with Esther Ráez’s talk, Why History is Important for You. Ráez will recap the highlights of the series and emphasize the significance of history in our everyday lives.
