Marbella’s Cristian Sánchez Secures Bronze at Spanish Table Tennis Championship

Cristian Sánchez, a player from Marbella, has secured a bronze medal at the Spanish School Age Table Tennis Championship with the Andalusian team. Standing third from the right on the podium, Sánchez was part of the junior team alongside Venancio Romero and David Durán.

Andalusian Team Triumphs at National Championship

In addition to Sánchez’s achievement, the team also celebrated victory in the female cadet category and two more bronze medals in the male cadet and female junior categories. The Pitiu Rochel Pavilion in Alicante hosted the Spanish School Age Table Tennis Championship 2024 last week, showcasing the best young talents in the sport and the high level of Andalusian table tennis.

Spain’s Top Regions Compete for Table Tennis Glory

The event witnessed the competitive spirit and nobility of table tennis reflected in Spain’s young talents. Madrid, Catalonia, and Galicia led the medal tally with two titles each, followed by Andalusia, Cantabria, and Castilla y León, each securing a title in the championship.

Marbella Table Tennis Club Members Shine at Championship

The Andalusian team included two members from the Marbella Table Tennis Club. Cristian Sánchez, one of the sport’s leading figures, competed in the junior category, while Dani Sánchez, the club’s coach and also a technician for Andalusia, supported the team. Cristian managed to reach the podium with the junior team, finishing in third place behind Madrid and Galicia, and sharing the bronze with Extremadura.

Sánchez’s Individual Performance at the Championship

In the individual category, the Marbella CTM player narrowly missed out on a medal, falling in the quarterfinals to Madrid’s Darío Salcedo, who eventually won the tournament. Despite this setback, Sánchez had a perfect group stage, defeating Buzaeanu, Feliciano, and Pérez to finish in first place. He continued his winning streak in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, before falling to the eventual champion Salcedo.

Andalusian Team’s Overall Performance

As for the rest of the Andalusian team, coach Dani Sánchez celebrated the great victory of the female cadet team and the two other bronze medals in the male cadet and female junior categories.
