Boats Collect Over 31 Cubic Metres of Sea Waste in July
In July, cleaning boats operating on the western Costa del Sol collected a staggering 31.64 cubic metres of waste from the sea. This significant effort highlights the ongoing issue of marine pollution in the region.
Plastics Make Up Majority of Collected Waste
The company responsible for the cleanup service, working on behalf of the Mancomunidad, a public consortium of town halls on the western Costa del Sol, provided data showing that over 85 per cent of the collected waste was plastic. This equates to a concerning 26.93 cubic metres of plastic waste.
Mancomunidad President Calls for Greater Environmental Care
Manuel Cardeña, the president of the Mancomunidad, has reiterated his call for citizens to take better care of the environment. He stressed that the plastic ending up in the sea is a direct result of human actions. Cardeña urged all citizens to be more mindful of their environmental impact, emphasizing the collective responsibility to protect our oceans.
