Adrián Ruiz and Andrea Martello Embark on a Journey of Faith and Kindness
Adrián Ruiz and Andrea Martello, two young men from Marbella, are about to embark on a remarkable journey. Their destination is the Vatican, and they plan to make the 2,500-kilometre journey without any money, relying solely on the generosity of the people they meet along the way. Their project, named ‘Un camino por descubrir’ or ‘a road to be discovered’, is set to commence on 1 March, with an expected arrival in the Holy City by mid-May.
Documenting the Journey and Inspiring Goodness
The duo plans to document their entire journey and share it on social media. Their aim is to inspire others and become influencers of good. They are taking advantage of the Jubilee year in the Vatican and are looking forward to the highlight of their journey – an audience with Pope Francis. They are eager to share their experiences and the kindness they have witnessed on their journey.
Setting Out with Full Hearts and Empty Pockets
Adrián and Andrea will be setting out on their journey with nothing but a backpack. They will not be carrying any money, only food. They plan to sleep in the countryside, under trees, and wash in rivers and on beaches. Both men are excited to pay homage to their roots during their journey. Adrián hails from Cantabria and Andrea from Venice.
Not Their First Adventure
This is not the first time Adrián and Andrea have embarked on such an adventure. They have previously journeyed from their coastal town to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana on the Cantabrian coast. They found the experience rewarding and were warmly welcomed by the locals.
Carrying a Symbol of Faith
The pair will be carrying an evergreen Royal Cypress on their journey, a species believed to be the same as the one used to make Christ’s cross. They plan to plant it before they set off and hope that it will grow during their journey. They hope to have it blessed by the Pope and then take it to the monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana.
Continuing the Journey on Foot and by Swimming
After leaving the monastery, they plan to continue their journey on foot and even by swimming, as they will cross the Strait of Messina. Once they reach the Vatican, they will proceed to Venice, where they will finally catch a plane back to Spain.
