Boat Skipper Detained Following Fatal Jet Ski Collision

The captain of a leisure boat has been remanded in custody without bail as he awaits the conclusion of an investigation into a fatal incident. The boat he was piloting is alleged to have collided with a jet ski, resulting in the death of a young man. The tragic event took place in Puerto Banús on Saturday, 24th August.

Witnesses Alert Authorities to Reckless Boating

Several bystanders on the shore raised the alarm about a boat reportedly navigating dangerously in an area marked by buoys around 6pm. The boat is then said to have crashed into the jet ski, leaving the rider unconscious and floating in the water.

Victim Identified as Young German Man of North African Descent

The 26-year-old victim, a German national of North African descent, was quickly brought to shore where attempts were made to resuscitate him. Despite these efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boat Skipper Tested for Alcohol and Drugs

The boat’s skipper, who was accompanied by another individual believed to be the boat’s owner, was taken to the port of Marbella. There, police conducted tests for alcohol and drugs.

Boat Skipper Tests Positive for Alcohol and Drugs

According to sources, the 34-year-old skipper, also a German national, tested positive on the breathalyzer, with a result exceeding one milligram per litre of exhaled air. This is significantly above the legal limit of 0.25. The drug test also indicated the presence of two narcotics, although these results are pending laboratory confirmation.

Possible Charges of Negligent Homicide

Pending the results of the police investigation, the skipper could potentially face charges of negligent homicide.
