Marbella Man Arrested for Setting Eight Vehicles on Fire
A man has been apprehended in Marbella after his actions reportedly led to eight vehicles being set ablaze. The fire was initially ignited within one of the vehicles parked at the esplanade of a car park near Cabopino beach, before it spread to seven other vehicles.
Local Police Respond to Fire Alert
Marbella Local Police were alerted to the fire around 6pm on Friday 18 October. Upon arriving at the scene, they found multiple vehicles engulfed in flames and promptly alerted the fire brigade.
Witness Account Leads to Suspect
A witness at the scene informed the police that the fire had started in the car parked next to his own. He reported seeing a man inside the car using a lighter, presumably to consume drugs. The witness described the man as being around 30 years old, slim, and dressed in a dark grey T-shirt and a baseball cap.
Fire Causes Cars to Roll and Collide
The witness noticed a large plume of smoke coming from the car park while at the beach. Upon his arrival, he saw that the car of the alleged suspect, as well as his own vehicle, were on fire. The fire damaged the braking systems of the cars, causing them to roll downhill and collide with other vehicles due to the slope of the parking area.
Six Vehicles Completely Destroyed
Out of the eight vehicles involved in the incident, six were completely destroyed by the fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread to other parked vehicles.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
Police identified a man at the scene who matched the witness’s description. The man approached the officers, claiming ownership of one of the wrecked vehicles. When asked to identify himself, he stated that his documents were inside the burning car. He admitted to being a drug user and claimed that he lost control of several lighters and a substance inside the car, which led to the fire. The suspect, a 35-year-old resident of Marbella, was arrested and taken to the police station where he tested positive for cocaine.
