Marbella Resident Embarks on a Holiday
As I pen down this article, I am enjoying the second day of my holiday. Living in Marbella and working in the media, one might argue that every day feels like a holiday. However, even the most passionate among us can feel a bit weary, making it essential to take a break. The challenge then becomes deciding what to do during this downtime.
Beach or Cultural Centre?
Living by a lake with my entire house behind me, the allure of the beach is somewhat lost on me. The idea of hopping on a plane to the Maldives to sit and stare at the sea seems rather redundant. Ideally, I should have been expanding my horizons by visiting a cultural centre. Perhaps checking out an exhibition in London, sightseeing in Lisbon, or indulging in my peculiar fascination with the Third Reich by exploring bunkers in Berlin. However, recent events in Westminster have provided enough doomed leadership scenarios to satisfy my curiosity.
Struggles with Paperwork
My ongoing struggles with paperwork, particularly locating my green residency form, have put a damper on my travel plans. This unfortunate circumstance has forced me to reconsider my holiday options.
A Luxurious Break at a Friend’s Home
The solution to my holiday dilemma came in the form of a generous offer from a good friend. She invited me to her home for a bit of luxurious cat sitting, or as I like to call it, ‘elegant slumming’. This was an opportunity to catch up on my reading, indulge in a movie marathon, and take stock of life.
Plans Thwarted by Unexpected Events
However, my plans for introspection were abruptly interrupted. My goddaughter Ziggy, who recently landed a new job on a major film project, decided to visit. We planned road trips and countryside cruises in my newly acquired X5. Unfortunately, the X5 had other plans, breaking its rear suspension on the first day of her visit. It seems my week off will now be spent familiarizing myself with the mechanics of the Costa del Sol. I anticipate that the money I’ll spend on repairs will be greatly appreciated by the mechanics, possibly even warranting Christmas cards this year.
