Green Laser Intervention at Quirónsalud Marbella’s Urology Unit
This March marks the fourth anniversary of the launch of the Urology care project at Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital. This period has seen the consolidation of a unit whose team has established itself as a benchmark in the province of Málaga.
Exponential Increase in Patient Numbers and Expert Team Expansion
“We have seen an exponential increase in patients, to whom we have responded by doubling the team of experts that make up the service. We have grown from the initial three specialists to seven. Our efforts are reflected in the consultation where we manage to provide a diagnosis in just 2-3 days,” highlights Dr. Pablo Navarro, Head of the Urology Service.
Investment in Latest Generation Lasers
In addition to the team’s growth, the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital has made a significant investment in technological equipment for the acquisition of the latest generation lasers. “New techniques such as Holmium Laser Enucleation, which allows us to treat large prostates without incisions, or Prostate Biopsy by magnetic resonance fusion, which enables us to detect prostate cancer in its earliest stages, are surgical approaches that were unthinkable four years ago,” emphasizes Dr. Navarro.
Focus on Oncology Patient Care
The Urology Service at Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital has focused its efforts on oncology patient care by implementing new care circuits and establishing medical protocols designed to offer clinical support during treatment and alleviate the stress of those affected by this disease.
Introduction of Oncology Sessions
“The introduction of oncology sessions has resulted in an increase in care quality. We have created special circuits for oncology patients so that much closer follow-ups are planned. In addition, our approach is multidisciplinary as we closely collaborate with other specialists involved in the healing process,” explains the head of the unit.
Continuous Training and Knowledge Exchange
Continuous training and constant knowledge exchange with renowned national and international experts is another differentiating factor of the medical team at the Marbella hospital. “Our strength – in the words of Dr. Pablo Navarro – lies in having formed a highly specialized unit of urologists trained in reference centers. We maintain close relationships with other first-level services with which we promote a mutual flow of knowledge through the development of regular clinical sessions, external rotations, and training meetings.”
Most Frequent Profile of Urology Patients
The most common profile of patients who visit the urologist is a male between 45-65 years old who requests a review appointment as a measure of prostate cancer prevention, generally. There is also a “very high” percentage of more heterogeneous patients in which diagnoses of bladder stones (urinary tract stones) or women with incontinence or urinary infections, among others, are found.
