Marbella City Council Announces Autumn Activities at Fernando Alcalá Library
The Marbella City Council has unveiled a series of thirty activities to be held at the Fernando Alcalá Library, located in La Represa Park, as part of its autumn program. The schedule of events will kick off on Friday, September 29, and will continue until December 27.
Library as a Hub for Community Engagement
Carmen Díaz, the Director General of Culture in Marbella, emphasized that the aim is to make the library a hub for community engagement, discussion, and sharing the emotions that books evoke. Over the course of three months, there will be meetings with seven reading clubs catering to various age groups, from babies to adults, including children, teenagers, and English speakers.
Fixed Proposals and Initiatives
The program will also feature fixed proposals such as ‘The Spoken Word’, a series coordinated by journalist Concha Montes, and initiatives like storytelling sessions and workshops for children. The activities will begin this Friday at 9:00 PM with ‘A Night at the Library: Under the Full Moon Light’.
Event Lineup
The event will start with a light and shadow show for children called ‘A Piece of Moon’, followed by a youth film and discussion session ‘Juan Romero, a Movie Story’, led by poet Alejandro Pedregosa at 10:00 PM. At 11:00 PM, the interpreted reading for adults ‘Let Me Tell You’ will conclude the event, presented by writer María Cabrillana.
Reading Clubs and Activities
The city official stated that the seven reading clubs will meet two to three times a month. Specifically, there will be a session for babies aged six to 36 months as an initial introduction to books, and two meetings for children aged 8-9 and 10-11 years, named ‘The Ray’ and ‘Sea of Books’, respectively. The adult programs are ‘The Dam’ and ‘Reading and Emotional Intelligence’, and the English meetings for levels B1 and B2 and ‘bookworms’.
Upcoming Events
Regarding ‘The Spoken Word’, which will take place on the last Wednesday of each month on October 25, November 29, and December 27, it was noted that the aim is for regular readers and literature lovers to find a space to share their experiences. On October 27, the Aida Laut company will stage the musicalized tale ‘The Birth of the Dragon’, followed by the storytelling ‘A Beastly Tale’ by Alicia Acosta on November 17. On December 2, there will be a Christmas card workshop led by illustrator Carla Ventresca.
Book Presentations and School Visits
In addition to these activities, there will also be book presentations and visits from students of various educational centers, where they will be introduced to the functioning of the library.
