International Theatre Studio’s Successful Fundraising Initiative
Following the triumph of the International Theatre Studio’s (ITS) production of Calendar Girls at the El Paraiso Hotel in October, the group members conceived a bold plan to generate funds for local cancer charities. The play, Calendar Girls, is inspired by the 2003 British comedy film directed by Nigel Cole. It was staged to packed houses in Estepona, with ticket demand so high that the company had to schedule an additional show.
From Stage to Calendar: A Unique Fundraising Idea
The female members of the theatre group took the initiative a step further by posing for a real calendar. The proceeds from the calendar sales were donated to the Elena Gaite Foundation. This foundation is known for raising funds for various organizations and charities that primarily support relatives and patients battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Local Businesses Support the Cause
The calendar photos were captured by the group’s in-house photographer, Alan Jones. Each month’s page was sponsored by a local business, which helped cover the printing and design expenses. The ITS members managed to raise 4,000 euros from the calendar sales during various fundraising events and performances throughout the holiday season.
Charity Cheque Presentation Ceremony
A cheque was handed over to the charity at a ceremony held at La Sala in Puerto Banús on a Tuesday evening. The event was graced by the women who posed for the calendar and John Frutos, the founder of the Elena Gaite Foundation. Representatives from the main charities supported by the foundation were also present, including Esther Ráez (Cudeca), Gemma Carr (Collective Calling), and Juan Carmona (AVOI).
