Manuel Cardeña’s Proposal Met with Criticism by Javier Salas
Manuel Cardeña, the president of the Commonwealth, proposed dredging the ports and using the sand to regenerate the beaches. However, this suggestion was met with a firm response from Javier Salas, the Government’s deputy in Malaga. Salas stated that Cardeña seems to think he has discovered something new, when in fact, this solution has been commonly used for over 30 years.
Cardeña’s Attempt to Lead Beach Conservation Efforts
On Tuesday, the president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol released a press note, positioning himself at the forefront of saving the region’s beaches. Cardeña announced in a statement that he had hired an external consultant to conduct a comprehensive study on the coastline and how to protect it. The report concluded with the need for “stable protection measures”, a statement that is glaringly obvious.
Cardeña’s ‘Revolutionary’ Proposal
Cardeña proposed what seemed to be a ‘revolutionary’ idea – dredging the ports and using the sand to replenish the losses on the coastline. However, the Government’s deputy in Malaga was quick to respond, reminding that this measure is far from innovative. “It has been done in the ports for over 30 years,” said Javier Salas. He pointed out that Cardeña seems to think he has discovered something new, proposing a formula that has been recurrently used.
Salas Criticizes Cardeña’s Lack of Knowledge
Salas criticized Cardeña’s lack of knowledge on the subject, stating that it is evident from his proposal. The Government’s deputy reminded that when the ports of Malaga have sand at the mouth, they carry out periodic dredging and communicate with the Coast Demarcation to agree on where it is contributed.
