Marbella’s Municipal Theatre to Host Educational Program for Local Students
The Marbella City Council has designed a cultural program for local students, which last year attracted 8,000 participants. This year, the program will offer a wide range of activities in various fields, including performing arts, reading encouragement, and scientific and historical heritage dissemination. Carmen Díaz, the General Director of the sector in Marbella, stated that the aim is to support schools and institutes in their educational work.
Wide Range of Disciplines to Foster Creativity
The proposals cover a broad range of disciplines to foster creativity among students from kindergarten to secondary school. These include scientific and local historical heritage dissemination, knowledge of nature, and enjoyment of the performing arts. The schedule includes visits to three archaeological sites on Thursdays and Fridays throughout the school year, and to the historic center on Thursdays.
Reading Encouragement and Guided Tours
There will also be reading encouragement activities, which will be carried out with storytellers for kindergarten and primary school students, and guided tours of the Fernando Alcalá library. In addition, activities have been planned within the framework of the Marpoética and Marcientífica festivals, and excursions to the Nagüeles Fort.
Performing Arts at the City of Marbella Theatre
Díaz specified that the performing arts offer at the City of Marbella Theatre from January to May will include three shows for institutes. The first show, ‘Recelo’ by Rafael Ramírez, will start on Thursday, January 25, at 12:00 PM. The work is an attempt to understand the causes and consequences of the most universal fears, exploring their multiple manifestations and their most extreme limits through dance.
Upcoming Performances
The program will continue on Friday, May 3, at 12:00 PM, with a version of ‘The Dog in the Manger’, a Lorca Award-winning adaptation that presents Lope’s comedy as a satire that introduces the viewer to a fun atmosphere. The third proposal for secondary schools will take place on Wednesday, May 8, with a double performance at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM of ‘Enloquecidas’, by Marta Ocaña, a show recommended by the Andalusian Network of Public Theatres in which seven women give voice to those born from Lorca through words, singing, dancing, and live music from flamenco.
Activities for Kindergarten and Primary School Students
A schedule of activities has been designed for kindergarten and primary school students, including the show ‘Uanna’, a visual poetic fable that tells the story of a girl different from the others. It will be staged on Thursday, February 22, with a double performance at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, and is aimed at students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. On March 20, at the same time, the puppet show ‘Counting Humps’ will take place, for children from four years old, which was recognized with the Feten 2017 award for the best plastic proposal and tells the story of a friendly camel that, along with other desert inhabitants, goes through the most varied adventures.
Illustrated Book Presentation
Finally, on May 31 at 12:00 PM, an illustrated book that tells the story of Martin, a boy who lives a musical adventure by attending a concert of eccentric classics with his school, will be presented at the central Fernando Alcalá library.
