Marbella FC and CD Estepona FS to Face Off in Long-Awaited Derby

This Sunday, the white team will host CD Estepona FS for the first time. Never before have both teams been in the same category, but due to proximity and history, this is one of the great football rivalries of the province. This Sunday, one of the great derbies of the Costa del Sol will be enjoyed again in Marbella.
Over 11 Years Since Last Home Match Against Estepona
It’s been more than 11 years since Marbella hosted a team from the neighboring town of Estepona. On October 7, 2012, the Marbella team hosted the now-defunct Union Estepona in what is the last official match played in Marbella against a club from the neighboring town. That Third Division duel ended with a 1-0 victory for the white team with a goal from Borjita.
Two Main Clubs of Marbella and Estepona Rarely Meet
Despite the fact that only 30 kilometers separate both cities, the truth is that the two main clubs of Marbella and Estepona have rarely coincided in the same categories in the last 30 years. In fact, the last time they shared a category, Marbella FC and the defunct Union Estepona was in the 2013/14 season. But on that occasion, the duel that was supposed to be played in Marbella could not be held as the Estepona team had to withdraw from the competition. The foundation of the new club took place in 2014.
Decade Later, Clubs to Play in Marbella Again
And now, a decade later, both clubs will finally play in Marbella again. In addition, both arrive at the match separated by only one point in the standings and with the goal of promotion as the end-of-season goal. It will therefore be the first visit of CD Estepona FS to Marbella FC, as since its foundation they had not coincided in the same category.
History of CD Estepona FS and Marbella FC Matches
History has brought together CD Estepona FS and Marbella FC in several campaigns. In addition to the 12/13 duel, a season earlier both teams faced off in Marbella with a local victory of 3-0 with goals from David Pérez, Julio and Pibe from a penalty. In the 2009/10 season, both clubs coincided for the first time in Segunda B, again with a Marbella victory over Estepona by 1-0 with a goal from Carlos Rivera. In the 97/98 season, they also faced each other in the Regional Preferente in the first campaign of Marbella since its foundation in 1997.
