The world number one tennis player, Novak Djokovic, created quite a buzz upon his arrival at Malaga Airport. The Serbian star flew in to support his country in the ongoing Davis Cup tennis tournament in the city. Djokovic arrived on Monday, 20 November, less than a day after his triumph at the Nitto ATP World Championships in Italy.
This is not Djokovic’s first visit to Andalusia. The 24-time grand slam winner often retreats to his Marbella mansion on the Costa del Sol to unwind from the rigors of the tour. He is a regular at the Puente Romano tennis club and was seen in Malaga city earlier this year, shortly after clinching his tenth Grand Slam in Australia. He was seen interacting with fans at the Inacua Racket Centre.
Before Serbia’s first match against Great Britain on Thursday, 23 November, Djokovic shared his fondness for living on the Costa del Sol. He described it as one of the most beautiful places globally, praising the year-round sunshine, which is ideal for a tennis player in Europe. He also highlighted the ability to play outdoors throughout the year, which is crucial given the open-air tournaments that kick off the season in Australia.
Djokovic also expressed his appreciation for the unique energy of the Costa del Sol, which he feels is distinct from other parts of Spain. He mentioned the excellent food, friendly locals, and the proximity to Africa and the Atlantic Ocean. He also noted the cultural and lifestyle offerings of Andalucía.
Djokovic will lead the Serbian team against Great Britain in the upcoming match. The victorious team will advance to the semi-finals to face the winner of the Italy-Netherlands match.
