Renovation Works Underway at Río Huelo Sports Complex in Marbella
The Marbella City Council is currently dismantling the Río Huelo sports complex, which previously housed three basketball courts and an indoor football pitch. The plan is to install a 500 square meter tent for karate practice. The governing team assures that the space will be reorganized and the previous uses will be maintained, both for schools and for general users.
Construction of a Martial Arts Pavilion
The City Council promises to complete what it refers to as a martial arts pavilion and an official competition venue for these disciplines within three months. This new sports facility is being built in the northern area of the sports complex, which previously had an indoor football pitch and three basketball courts.
Continued Use for Basketball and Football
The governing team has assured that these sports can still be practiced and that schools will continue to use them in the morning and general users in the afternoon. However, currently, basketball hoops are scattered on the ground, making it hard to believe that the old courts can be maintained while adding a 500 square meter tent for karate in the same space.
Details of the New Pavilion
The City Council describes the new facility as a pavilion, explaining that it will be a metal structure supported by perimeter pillars. The enclosure will have a main door, an emergency exit, and ten windows. Inside, it will feature two large 11×11 approved tatamis. The height will vary between three meters on the sides and over four meters in the center. It will also include changing rooms, toilets, and offices.
Completion Date and Previous Events
The works, which started a month ago, are expected to be completed by the end of March. In recent years, the Río Huelo sports complex has hosted the Herbalife 3×3 Series basketball circuit.
