Marbella and Estepona: Spain’s Most Expensive Hotels

Marbella and Estepona, two neighboring towns on the Costa del Sol, had the most expensive hotels in Spain during the past month of July, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The average price in both cases was around 300 euros. Among the ten most expensive towns, Benalmádena also features, ranking ninth.

Marbella Dethroned by Estepona

Marbella had been leading the list of the most expensive municipalities to stay in a hotel in recent months, but in July it was slightly displaced by Estepona. Both towns on the Costa del Sol had the highest prices in their hotel establishments during the past month. The average room price in Estepona was 297.97 euros, while in Marbella it was slightly lower at 283.85 euros. Both far exceed the 200 euro mark, a limit also surpassed by San Sebastián with 225.82 euros.

Spain’s Top Ten Most Expensive Towns for Hotel Stays

The only inland town to appear in fourth position is Pamplona, where the average of its hotel accommodations is 182 euros. The rest of the municipalities in the top 10 are coastal: Sitges, Barcelona, Palma, Calviá (Mallorca), and Santander. Another town on the Costa del Sol, Benalmádena, ranks ninth with an average rate of 147.97 euros. These figures are from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) through the Hotel Occupancy Survey (EOH), which was published this Wednesday.

Spain’s Cheapest Hotels

The cheapest hotels, according to these data, are in Palencia, with an average price of 52 euros per room.
