Record-Breaking Overnight Stays in Marbella’s Tourist Apartments
April marked a record-breaking month for overnight stays in Marbella’s tourist apartments, with nearly 88,000 nights recorded. Over 17,000 tourists chose this type of accommodation, which saw an occupancy rate of 59% during the Easter period, a time that marks the start of the influx of visitors to the municipality.
Increasing Popularity of Tourist Apartments in Marbella
The trend of staying in tourist apartments continues to rise in the municipality. The latest data from April shows a record-breaking number of overnight stays during the Easter period. According to data released on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), there were 87,957 overnight stays in tourist apartments, a record in the historical series (since 2005) for the month of April.
Foreigners Dominate Overnight Stays
The majority of the overnight stays were by foreigners (76,805), while Spanish tourists accounted for 11,152. As for the tourists who chose these non-hotel accommodations, there were 17,562, slightly less than the same month last year. The occupancy rate was 59% and the average stay was five days.
Employment in the Tourism Sector
According to the INE, it is estimated that 576 people were employed in the sector.
