Marbella Council Approves Preliminary New Marbella Town Plan
The governing council of Marbella has given the green light to the preliminary version of the new detailed town plan. Since Monday, the plan has been open for public consultation for a period of 30 days. The new Urban Planning Scheme (POU), set to replace the outdated 1986 version, has been drafted in accordance with Andalucía’s new Lista planning laws.
Mayor Highlights Key Aspects of the New Marbella Town Plan
Marbella’s Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, has stated that the new plan is more attuned to the current needs and realities of Marbella. It also takes into account growth criteria and land rationalisation. Muñoz underscored three main elements of the POU: sustainability, increased access to housing, and the creation of new business opportunities and jobs.
Addressing Water Supply and Population Growth
“We are acutely aware of the current drought situation and the future implications for our water supply,” Muñoz said. She added that the plan aims for orderly growth of the town, ensuring that all new residents have access to essential services.
Replacing the Old PGOU Format
The previous PGOU format for town halls in Andalucía has been superseded by two documents: the PGOM topline plan, which is already under process, and the more detailed POU. Marbella anticipates final approval of the plan next year.
