Unexpected Flooding Turns A-7 Motorway into a Lake
Early on Monday morning, 14th October, sections of the A-7 motorway on the Costa del Sol were transformed into a lake-like scene. Numerous vehicles already on the road were compelled to navigate through the floodwaters, with water levels reaching over their wheels and creating large waves. This unforeseen event occurred around 7.30am between Cancelada, in Estepona, and San Pedro Alcántara, in Marbella. Several social media users have already shared images of the incident.
Storm Málaga Shares Video of the Flooding
Videos of the flooding began to circulate as the Junta de Andalucía’s Hidrosur monitoring network recorded a rainfall accumulation of 27mm in one hour at the Guadalmansa dam. This measurement was taken specifically between 7am and 8am. Although this figure is still within the yellow threshold, it is dangerously close to the amber warning which starts from 30mm.
Rainfall Measurements Across the Province
The nearby La Concepción reservoir also experienced significant rainfall, receiving almost 14mm in the same hour. This was the same amount recorded in the municipality of Pujerra, in the Serranía de Ronda. Other parts of the western province also experienced rainfall, although the accumulated amounts were lower. For instance, Ronda recorded a rainfall of 7.5mm.
