San Pedro Alcántara Tunnel Entrance Undergoing Renovation
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is carrying out renovation works at the San Pedro Alcántara tunnel, located on the A-7 highway. The work, which will commence this Friday and continue until June 26, aims to improve the emergency exits.
Nighttime Traffic Disruptions Expected
As a result of the renovation works, traffic disruptions are expected during nighttime hours. The renovation, along with the work being done at the Churriana tunnel, has a budget allocation of 3.76 million euros.
Left Lane Closures, Right Lane Remains Open
In the San Pedro Alcántara tunnel, traffic will be affected with closures in the left lane, while the right lane will remain open at all times. Specifically, the closures will affect the Cadiz-bound (ascending kilometer) between kilometers 1054.260 and 1055.260, and the Barcelona-bound (descending kilometer) between kilometers 1055.260 and 1054.260.
Work Schedule and Traffic Flow
The work will be carried out on Sunday nights to Monday, between 10:00 PM on Sundays and 7:00 AM. And, from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 PM of one day and 7:00 AM of the next day. Between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM, there will be no lane closures, nor on weekends, with traffic being restored from 7:00 AM on Fridays. The right lane will remain open to traffic at all times during the execution of the works.
No Alternative Routes Available
Given the characteristics of the A-7 highway in this area, it is not possible to enable alternative routes during the execution of the works. Similar traffic disruptions were experienced during the past Easter week when work was carried out at the same location.
