Tourist Arrivals in Marbella’s Holiday Apartments Plunge in June
The number of tourists staying in holiday apartments in Marbella significantly dropped in June, compared to both the previous months and the same period last year. Overnight stays, which had set records in April and May, also fell. The occupancy rate dropped to 58%, while the average stay slightly increased. The holiday apartment business in Marbella has been sluggish in June, with significant declines in the arrival of visitors choosing this type of accommodation, which is increasingly controversial due to the disturbances they cause.
Statistics Show Decrease in Tourist Numbers and Overnight Stays
According to data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), both the number of tourists and overnight stays have decreased, dragging down the occupancy rate as well. In June, 14,284 visitors who arrived in Marbella chose a holiday apartment. This is less than in May (16,553) and April (17,563). It also represents a 32% decrease compared to June 2022, when the number reached 20,995.
Overnight Stays and Occupancy Rates
As for overnight stays, 86,865 were recorded in June, 22% less than a year ago (112,470) and a significant drop compared to May (100,724). The declines are mainly linked to foreign tourists, who usually drive these types of statistics in the municipality, but not in this case. The average stay is 6.08 days, the same as in May, but higher than the 5.36 days in June 2022. Occupancy plummeted to 58.51% after the rate recorded the previous month (71%). According to the INE, it is estimated that the staff employed was 618 people.
Hotels and Apartments
If we add those who stayed in hotels (76,647 visitors) and those who opted for holiday apartments (14,284), Marbella welcomed 90,931 tourists in June. It is noticeable that foreign visitors increased in hotel accommodations, while they decreased in apartments.
