The renowned Los Monteros hotel in Marbella has recently reopened its doors with grand ambitions. During the official opening ceremony, the hotel’s director, Merry Antoja, expressed her desire for the establishment to become the best Kimpton hotel in Europe. She acknowledged the honor and responsibility that comes with managing a five-star luxury hotel, which she referred to as “legendary”.
Reviving the Legacy of Los Monteros
In the presence of nearly a hundred guests, including the Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, and the Andalusian regional government’s tourism representative, Carlos García, Antoja shared her vision for the hotel. She emphasized the importance of preserving the hotel’s legacy and restoring its former glory and luxury, with a fresh concept centered on personalized, unique, and local experiences.
Connecting the Hotel with the Town
Antoja expressed her desire for the hotel to reconnect with the town and become a prominent gathering spot. She announced the arrival of new businesses, including Rachel’s Eco Love and Orbelar Brown swimwear. She also unveiled the new terrace with panoramic views of Marbella, which she anticipates will be the hotspot this summer, with a music festival scheduled for June.
Introducing Maison Codage Paris Spa
In April, the Maison Codage Paris spa will open its doors, offering personalized treatments. Antoja highlighted that one of the unique aspects of this brand, targeted at boutique hotels of the IHG chain, is its emphasis on fun, ensuring that both staff and guests have an enjoyable experience.
Staffing and Room Details
Antoja revealed that some of the original staff have returned to the revamped hotel, and they expect to employ 250 staff members by summer. The hotel boasts 195 rooms, 60 of which are suites.
Investment and Renovation
The Mayor of Marbella praised the hotel chain’s commitment, which has invested 14 million euros in the comprehensive renovation of the legendary Los Monteros. The hotel now features 195 rooms, most of which have large terraces and sea views.
Historical Significance and Celebrity Guests
In her speech, Muñoz recalled that the hotel first opened in 1962 and has hosted numerous celebrities over the years. She described the hotel as a reflection of Marbella’s international reputation. The hotel has retained its original name, Los Monteros, and many of the staff members have returned to work there.
Advancements in Gastronomy
The hotel is also making strides in gastronomy, with Michelin-starred chef José Carlos García heading the restaurant. The Andalusian government’s tourism spokesperson highlighted the hotel’s expansion by 17 rooms and its role as a benchmark for luxury tourism.
Arrival of the Kimpton Brand on the Costa del Sol
The reopening of the hotel marks the arrival of the Kimpton brand on the Costa del Sol. It is the first establishment of this chain in Andalucía and the third in Spain, with others in Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. The director stated that the hotel will once again symbolize the luxury it was always known for, attracting royalty, musicians, and Hollywood stars. Notable guests have included Queen Ingrid of Denmark, Michael Jackson, Julio Iglesias, Camilo José Cela, Baron von Thyssen, Lola Flores, Sean Connery, Antonio Banderas, and Melanie Griffith.
