Marbella’s Fishermen’s Pathway Gets a Facelift

The Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, visited the Fishermen’s Pathway on Thursday to mark the completion of the renovation works. The project, which cost nearly two million euros, has been a significant investment in the area.

Unresolved Sanitation Issues

Despite the improvements, the project has been criticized for failing to address the sanitation problems faced by residents of adjacent developments. These residents will continue to rely on septic tanks, as the renovation did not extend to their areas.

Modern Infrastructure for the Pathway

The renovation has equipped the area with a modern sanitation network, updated lighting, and new pavement and sidewalks. However, residents of nearby developments, such as Hacienda Cortés, have been left out and will have to continue using septic tanks.

Long-Awaited Promise

The Marbella City Council first announced a comprehensive renovation of the Fishermen’s Pathway on April 27, 2015, a month before that year’s municipal elections. The renovation, covering 350 meters, was scheduled to be completed in 18 months. However, the work did not start as planned. In April 2023, eight years later, the promise was renewed, again a month before the May 28 elections.

Residents’ Expectations

Finally, the renovation works have been completed. However, residents would have preferred a more ambitious project that extended sanitation to adjacent areas.

Details of the Renovation

The renovation covered a total area of 2,000 square meters, including a sewage network with 896 meters of fecal collectors and 1,136 meters of independent storm drains. Additionally, 67 inspection wells and 40 drains were installed, along with a new cast iron supply network, a 924-meter telecommunications network, an 848-meter public lighting network, and about 40 streetlights. The entire electrical installation was also renewed.
